A BEAUTIFULLY-WRITTEN NOVEL
Title: Where The Crawdads SingAuthor: Delia OwensGenre: Literacy FictionPages: 368 “You know you have read the good book when you turn the large page and as if you have lost a friend.” This is absolutely true for Where The Crawdads Sing novel by Delia Owens, who has won the John Burroughs Award for Nature Writing. Suspenseful murder mystery, coming-of-age story, and its beautiful evocation of marshland are as remarkable as heroine Kya. The author has so eloquently infused the plot with nature and nature with poetry that one can feel and imagine every line of the novel. For years, Kya, who had been fostered by the nature, spent her life through the eyes of an abandoned child on the marshland of North Carolina. Finding friends in gulls and learning lessons from the marsh, Kya yearned to be loved and cared for. Unfortunately, her love story turned into an unimaginable way that she became the suspect in Chase Andrew’s murder in late 1969. The chapters of this novel are set in the suspenseful Chase Andrew’s murder and years of Kya’s life. Where The Crawdads Sing is an interesting book filled with attractive words as if it were prose or thought-provoking poetry. Though it is a very lucid book, one has to surf the internet to find the names of various species of birds. It is an amazing nature-infused plot and I would recommend it to everyone. I would rate it 5/5âï¸A BEAUTIFULLY-WRITTEN NOVEL

A beautiful book that’ll make you cry
Today morning I sat down to write out my thoughts on ‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens. And to be frank, the book’s marvelous in every way and I want you all to read this book, no doubt. But while reading up on the author I came across an article from The New Yorker, stating that Delia Owens was allegedly involved in a murder of a possible animal poacher in Zambia. The reports are not conclusive about her level of involvement in the incident, but it’s evident that the Owen family never came back to Zambia for their criminal investigation after leaving the country to visit America.Apart from this, I really wanna talk about this book. It’s one of a kind that’ll drive you to tears just with the power of it’s words. It was poetically rich and raw with emotions so sharp, that they’ll dig into your soul to make you feel the pain behind the pages. The story of Kya, deserves to be read, known and cherished. Where The Crawdads Sing will make you annotate every page, almost! And we bookworms know that a book can be different kinds of heartbreaking, Where The Crawdads Sing gives you the worst kind of empty and stilled heartbreak, that only comes from tragic injustices. This book will cut open your heart will a million strikes. This book has been narrated in two timelines: 1952 & 1969, when Kya was growing up and the year Chase Andrews was found dead, murdered in the marshes. Kya, almost 8, is first abandoned by her Ma. She had seen her Pa, beating her Ma and one day Ma left. Her siblings waited for her return and tried their best to get the household chores done to keep the family fed. But Pa’s rage and abusive ways made everyone run away except for our little Kya. Whom nobody took with them, so she remained. She cleaned with her little hands not knowing what to do or how to cook. Kya grew up teaching herself, wandering in the marshes alone and making friends with every creature of nature she could find in that lonesome place.@thebookishlawyer (IG)

A book that I wished didn’t end
The beautiful description of marsh, the tale of the survival of a girl in that marsh all alone, her remarkable talents, the beginning and maturing of emotions, the connection of these emotions to her childhood and finally the gripping suspense, make the book one of the best fiction that I have read in a long time.

Unforgettable, Exhilarating & Refreshing
This is one captivating novel which comes once in many years and leaves gasping for more. Had watched the movie first on Netflix and it left me wanting to read the novel. Ms. Owens has very vividly described and introduced the reader to the magical world of the marshes. I was literally transported along with the protagonist, Kya, to this magical universe. Have always been a beach person and this novel echoed with my sentiments. Your heart really goes out for the little, innocent and defenceless âMarsh Girlâ and wants to be there fighting for and protecting her raw innocence from the harsh realities of Life. The movie has also stayed true to the novel and the ending was perfect in all ways. Will definitely watch the movie once again and relive the experience of savouring the novel. Hope Ms. Owens will come up with more such gems in the near future.

A wonderful read
Delia’s knowledge of Nature shine throughout the book. Kya is a complex character, and the story might not be for everyone. It took me some time to start enjoying the story. Although the story became predictable at one point the ending did not disappoint me.Coming to the delivery, the first time I received this book, the binding was damaged due to bad packaging. I was sent a replacement promptly and thankfully the second time it came unharmed.I urge Amazon to please use some kind of reinforcement material or a better packaging for books, to avoid such physical damages.

Felt connected to the story as if I watched it happen
The story is very well written and the character development is awesome. Everybody feels lonely at one point of time – but what if loneliness is life, having nobody to run to, talk to, share memories with, rant problems with and that’s Kya – main character of this story. The struggles she faces, the shame she has to endure, the love she longs for, the life she imagines for – my god!!! BTW, the ending is very satisfying!

This novel is crafty, touching, full of suspense and poetry. The descriptive passages are relevant in that they help readers visualize the ambience which is so strictly linked to the main character. We are left in the dark till the end as to the murder , but the truth does not really surprise us, it comes out of the inherent nature of the character herself, who is so embedded in nature, so much a part of it that talking about morality or immorality is senseless. Nature isn’t moral or immoral. And Kya has been brought up by Nature not by parents.
