“They all dreamed of adventuring, except for Mango, who dreamed of riding around on Barney’s back, eating pineapple and having a joyous time.”I didn’t eat pineapple like Mango, but I did experience joy while reading this summertime story. In the fifth installment of The Adventurers series, author Jemma Hatt again ignites the fire of imagination for middle-grade readers. She recognizes and realizes the dreams of a growing cast of core characters: Lara, Rufus, Tom, Barney, Maye, Daisy, Logan, Dee, and Mrs. Jacobs. Even supporting character Mango the monkey has her fun wishes fulfilled.Logan’s acting career serves as the catalyst for the team’s Costa Rican expedition and TV reality show competition. Determined to ensure safety and wise decisions, archaeologist and mother Mrs. Jacobs accompanies the group, but with independent Rufus and young Maye often taking the lead, caution may be an afterthought. The contest prize of $100,000 appears to be the goal, but does it disguise an even greater treasure hidden long ago? From tortillas to tourists and the jungle to jaguars, the Central American setting provides the perfect backdrop for the plot as The Adventurers work together to go behind the cameras and uncover the mystery of the strange TV crew’s true intentions. Fortunately, they find some help in the form of new friends Alejandro and Dario.I appreciate the subtle character growth in Lara wanting to respect her mother’s desires and Tom’s expanding knowledge base that can be relied upon in critical moments. Logan appears to be taking small strides to overcome a self-first philosophy; I hope Dee begins to give him more credit for it.Join the traveling team by reading along and solving the clues. You may need to slightly suspend reality in spots, but you won’t regret taking the trek.

Always love this series ( Original Review )New Review. I understand if you click on a reviewers name you can see their past reviews and if you click on mine you might gather that 9 years ago I ( my wife did the hard work ) had a little boy and my current reviews are mostly age appropriate boys stuff, bike stuff ( I am a MAMIL middle aged bloke in lycra ) and DIY.I am amending this review as I learned that this author has been getting a lot of anon low star reviews and one “public” low star review .If I was one of the Adventurers I would “smell a rat ” or a “master criminal”. Nothing that the Adventurers cant handle .And as the Dad of a young Adventurer I should like to comment that as others have said there is something of ” the famous 5 ” in this series. I think this series is better , Enid Blyton’s famous five are pretty much 1930’s England and that is not a bad place to be but the Adventures have adventures all over and are a tad faster paced and more Adventure! Stig of the Dump published 1963 I loved it and my boy loved it . It stands her test of time . Will the Adventurers series still be read in 40-50 years ? Probably they are fun little yarns.Richard Bartram

Jemma Hatt writes epic adventures, it’s that simple. This is book Five in the Adventurer series and is, if anything better than the other four, not that they aren’t fab. When Uncle Logan signs them all up for a reality TV show treasure hunt the gang are off to Costa Rica. What follows is a rip roaring adventure full of peril, villians, tunnels, trapdoors and some brilliantly fun moments. We won’t spoil it by giving too much plot away, but it’s brilliant. Currently our favourite adventure series. Buy this one, but also buy the previous four, you’ll be happy you did. Perfect for anyone with a good sense of adventure. We are a family with a wide range of ages, and everyone of us love these.

Although nearly 70 years old, I enjoyed this adventure and the characters in the story. I have read the other adventures and will start reading the next adventure which was just released.
