So meine Recherche.

These headphones are truly a very special product that seem to fly under the radar of many reviewers and audiophiles alike. To give some background i have owned a whole host of Headphones in the past and present, AKG K812 (best soundstage better than even the HD800), Q701, 701, 612 240mk2 , Sennheiser 540 Gold (superb if you can get them second hand) , 580x, 600, 650 , Grado 60, 80, 325 and RS2, Stax L300 and 500, Denon D7200, D9200 Beyers DT 880, 990, T5 and T90 plus Audio Technicas M50, 70 and ADH1000 to name a few most which i have sold but a few remain but these Shures a most certainly a keeper.Iam left scratching my head wondering why these are not so highly rated as they should be but doing some research these when it comes to studio engineers these are very highly praised but i myself am coming from a listening for pleasure point of view with no sound / studio engineering background whatsoever.I have mostly had open back headphones in my collection the best closed backed i owned were IMO the Denon D9200 closely followed by the Beyer T5P, but these IMO are better than both of those on many fronts and at only £120 currently!Sound description is always subjective and personal but i would say that these are a neutral to warm sound signature with the best bass response i have ever heard from any headphone i have owned, tight, deep when the recording requires it, no bloat whatsoever and very musical. The mids remind me a lot of the Sennheiser HD600 not quite so full and warm but iam comparing these against the 600 which are widely recognised as having the best most natural sounding mids of ANY headphone. Vocals are forward and in your face like the 600s very full with amazing levels of detail, breathing, lip movement vocal gymnastics obviously providing the recording allows it (iam thinking Diana Krall, JD Souther etc).Highs are crisp and highly detailed you would never call these headphones veiled in any shape or form. Soundstage being closed isnt in the AKG 812, 701 / Stax L500 league but it isnt what i would call compressed or squashed, instrument seperation is up there with the best, when the recording calls for outside the head projection these can produce that very accurately, depth isnt the best of course but these are no slouch either.I honestly don’t know what fairy dust Shure sprinkled onthe 40mm drivers but whatever it was with their engineers it works! There are some negatives when it comes to build quality, these are no Beyerdynamic when it comes to build, they do have a large amount of plastic with metal disc covering the drivers with the Shure logo emblazoned in gold lettering a matter of personal taste. The headband works well with a positive click motion and the headband does look impressive with faux leather but nice contrasting yellow stitching and a good deal of padding underneath, i can be susceptible to hot spots on the top of my hairless head with this type of headband but iam detecting no discomfort so far. I have only had a few hours on these so i consider the drivers not fully broken in yet (if you believe in that controversial topic of burning in)Would i recommend these? Of course for £120 these are really a no brainer and a steal at that price, i never heard the original 840 but going on the forums etc these are a definite step up from those legends too, only time will tell if these are as well received but i honestly can’t see why not.

Don’t even think twice or waste time searching for the best budget Headset. This one is a must-have Shure SRH 840A. I got it for my Podcast, which is just what I needed for recording and editing, but ended as well using it for other stuff.
