Best primer for beginners as well as advanced learners
This is the best primer on Indian classical music zi have come accross. Systematically compiled simply communicated for a novice like me. So the book is right for the biginners as well as more advaced who will appreciate the neuances of classical music. This is my second copy as present to my sister and I have ordered another for my daughter. The author is well endowned in science and arts with materes degrees and doctorate in communications. This depth of learning reflects in writing. For the high quality of the book it surprisingly inexpensive. My sincere thanks to the writer. My only criticism is the book was not accompanied by the CD it promised. The author kindly sent me on my request

No demonstration in Kindle version.
I have purchased Kindle version. Apparently, the hard copy comes with a CD which demonstrates the topics discussed in the book. But, in the Kindle version, this is not available. Thus, many theoritical discussions go over the head – Meend, Andolan, Kampit, differences amongst gharanas, distinction amongst shuddh, komal, and teevr swars, to name a few. Otherwise, the book is doubtlessly good.

Excellent book for an overview of different facets of Hindustani classical music!
I feel this book covers all important aspects of Hindustani classical music. It gives a very good overview of this art form. For deeper understanding on any aspect, one can later search internet for videos and other resources.In the raag section, aaroh, avaroh and some swara patterns would have added value to readers, while the explanations are good.

Books’s Alright, CD Not Given
Book’s a good one.Although it is clearly stated on the back cover and the inside of the book that the book is ‘Accompanied by a CD’, no such thing came in my parcel. Clearly, that’s unfair.

The accompanying CD did not arrive, therefore, it was difficult to follow the book without the musical examples. The book tries to explain the various elements and instruments.

It’s a book on understanding it. The Ultimate riyaaz books are books dedicated to the practice of classical Indian music. They are not raag based but thaat based. This book and those books are prefect together going hand and hand. This one is theory and the other is the application.
