Prepare the patient: Ensure that the patient is seated in a relaxed position with their arm supported at heart level.
Wrap the cuff: Wrap the cuff around the upper arm, just above the elbow, ensuring a snug fit. The cuff should be positioned in line with the heart.
Inflate the cuff: Use the inflation bulb to inflate the cuff until the gauge reaches around 160 mmHg.
Slowly deflate the cuff: Gradually release the air from the cuff using the pressure-release valve. As the air is released, the needle on the gauge will begin to drop.
Record the measurements: Note the systolic pressure (the higher number) and diastolic pressure (the lower number) indicated on the gauge when the heartbeat sounds (first sound) are heard and when they disappear (last sound).
