One morning, traveling salesman Gregor Samsa wakes from an anxious dream to discover that he has inexplicably changed into a monstrous insect. Nonetheless, life goes on, and poor Gregor is left to deal not only with the existential questions of who or what he now is but also with more mundane concerns: his job (which he fears he’ll lose), his loved ones (whom he fears he disgusts), and the daily indignities of everyday life (which continue apace). Soon, even those who sympathize with his bizarre predicament begin to lose their patience…

A darkly comic examination of social mores, family dynamics, and the nature of identity itself, Kafka’s unsettling masterpiece has inspired a century of literary debate and interpretive theories. But its enduring power lies in the simplicity of its audacious premise, its deadpan surrealism, and its humane sensitivity.

Revised edition: Previously published as The Metamorphosis, this edition of The Metamorphosis (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

    A must read!
The story depicts about the tragic nature of life and how mean people around us can be..Gregor Samsa the main character in the book struggles to survive after going through a metamorphosis..he already struggled earlier as a human but his difficulties arised after being a giant vermin..his family members neglectful nature towards him shows the vile nature of humans towards each other..a good book to read.

    Splendid
It takes time to swallow what all have been presented. But once you do, the human nature becomes more and more understandable.”Kafka’s ‘Metamorphosis’ is a haunting exploration of isolation and identity. Gregor’s transformation into an insect unveils the cruelty of society and the fragility of human existence. This thought-provoking novella is a must-read, leaving you pondering the nature of identity and societal norms. A timeless masterpiece.”

    Short read but not glamorous
Ok for me. Insightful perhaps…up to the reader to judge. Could be very boring as well! Depends on psychology of reader

    Different situation of life
The prospect of family, friends and people will change with time. When you have the importance then people will treat you well.If you become a burden then people want to get rid of you.

    Thought provoking
It is a good book about how person’s creditability is somehow more important than its relationship with his / her family

    A moral for humanity
It is with great regret to see how one’s identity changes and society lashes out against. Franz Kafka has written such a tremendous story that you’d get a tear in a eye. This shows us that as humans when your job is done, you are no longer existed in the place and everybody’s got their own desires and needs that they’d only come at you for their purposes.

Very interesting book. Not really friend breaking or thought provoking, but an interesting look at his society treats its castaways.

This story was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. It had a great early magical realism theme, and kept me spellbound.
