The biggest challenge I had with this software was that I started out using it on a media grade laptop (Gaming, graphic editing, etc.) and found that I couldnât fully utilize all of the features due to display space. This is not a limitation of the software, it is just making clear that if you, like me, have to edit, create, and work on the fly and tend to use laptops you will need expand to outside monitor to be able to really flow when working with the powerful tools this package delivers. While it is not likely that you would be using all of its apps simultaneously it is probable you will have two or more open to optimize your time. Iâve used a couple different configuration and found that either a second large screen or a dual screen companion works well for remote editing. On a tower system with a large monitor or multiple monitors this package is a dream to work with. So far weâve been busy testing it with animation editing, consumer and commercial quality video production, audio recording (Sound Forge 17, Acid Music Studio 11) and musical composition (Independence Pro Plus Library) and found the systems to be highly responsive and easy to use. For those whoâve used Vegas Pro the Vegas Pro Post 21 has no significant learning curve. What you will find is that the things you were wishing for in the Pro and exactly where youâd want to find them in the post. If you have NO previous editing experience the system is still fairly intuitive and a bit of time with a specific short project and a few of the support tutorials and youâll be up and running.Installations were easy but there are multiple component licenses and activations to do. It was a little over an hour to install and activate all of the licenses. In reviewing this I did NOT buy any subscription services but tested this as a stand-alone. With just what is in the package and with all the updates â all of the apps and drivers have updated multiple times since installationâ I can and have produced excellent quality videos and a lot of audio content. But I really have not scratched the surface of what this can do. This software is perfect for a serious consumer media creator who wants to start their own commercial studio or someone whose already working professionally part-time and is making decisions about how to upgrade or make their studio a full-time business. The pro â massive tools, amazing functionality, and a LOT of resources (samples, loops, settings, fx etc) and an exceptionally low price point for everything this includes. The Cons â You may need to subscribe to source services to keep current and competitive as you progress and if you have NO experience there is a learning curve for ever component of this package. The conclusion: If you go no further than this package and have a limited range of projects you have way more than you need. If you are serious about media this software will give you plenty of room to explore.

Vegas and I go way back. It’s a generally solid software to use, especially when it comes to fun quirky features other software programs don’t have. The vibe of the software is very rebellious historically.Overall, it’s a great second video editing software to have to accomplish tasks that some just cant.

I’ve been using different packages for video editing over the past 20 years or so, and having a license for Vegas used to be almost mythical. Like “You can afford the license and hardware to run it?” mythical. When there was a time you “settled for” Final Cut Pro. So I was initially surprised to see it on Amazon, and even more surprised to see the price. The overall look and feel is kind of a mixed bag, if I’m being honest. One thing FCP has going for it is that there’s consistency throughout the different tools. With Vegas, transitioning from video to audio tools almost feels like you’re going over a hump. Like they’re bolted on. Everything flows reasonably well once you get used to it, but something seems just a little off. And when I looked a little deeper into it, I realized that the fabled versions of Vegas were from when Sony owned it. It kind of reminded me of the early days of Corel Draw before Corel’s IP was sold to another company.Again – I can’t stress this enough – it works well. If you’re doing post with a green screen, for example, you can output content that looks professional. Assembling and rendering it does what it should do. But there’s just a polish that’s missing from the workflow that almost forces you to do some context switching.Assuming both suites were hardware and OS agnostic, and since they cost about the same, I think I’d still go with FCP if given the choice. But since that’s not a thing, I’d probably say that Vegas is one of the better Windows suites out there that doesn’t cost more than a kilobuck.

This is a full video production suite complete with all sorts of fades and wipes and about a million other effects. It also has the ability to import more and the ability to work with a gaggle of formats. On a fast PC with a good GPU, editing times are really good compared to other products like it on the market. It is as deep as you want it while at the same time being as simple as you need.Whether beginner or professional, Sony Vegas Pro has been a standard for a long time now and many people use it in their video production workflow. It’s another tool in a videographers chest.I highly recommend this for people new to video editing on the PC. It has a very easy learning curve for simple transitions and edits as well as truncating and replacing and voiceover. It will show you the ropes and is very translatable to other packages once you learn the basics.
